Barreling Over Niagara Falls

In 1901, Annie Edson Taylor got a big idea that she thought just might change her rotten luck. With the threat of the poorhouse looming over her head, she decided to make her own destiny by doing what no one had ever done-barreling over Niagara Falls. Join Annie on her bold, life-changing adventure as she searches for fame and recognition as a sixty-three-year-old daredevil. In the months leading up to the plunge, Annie works day and night to design a special barrel that will take her safely over the falls, carefully combating every challenge that gets in her way. She must be ready for her spectacular act in time for the Pan-American Exposition, a day when tourists from far and near will gather to see Annie's brave feat. Annie plans to use her fame from the stunt to travel the world, making her fortune from the fans who paid to hear her story. Find out if Annie's daring exploits brought her the glory she desired and read about those who followed in her footsteps and took the plunge for themselves! This children's nonfiction book tells the tale of perseverance and courage in the face of adversity, accompanied by beautiful illustrations of turn-of-the-century Niagara Falls, New York. Nancy Kelly Allen, a former teacher and librarian, fell in love with children's books as a graduate student. The author of Pelican's "Happy Birthday": The Story of the World's Most Popular Song and Daniel Boone: Trailblazer, Allen is a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, Appalachian Authors Guild, Writers of the North Fork, and Art of the Mountains. She resides with her husband, Larry, and two assistant writers, miniature schnauzers Jazi and Roxi, in Hazard, Kentucky. Lisa Fields was always encouraged to pursue her dream of becoming an artist. She received a BFA in illustration from the Ringling College of Art and Design in 2006. The illustrator of several children's books, her work has appeared in Boys' Life and Highlights magazines. She resides in New York City where she is a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators.
